VEJA & ECOALF two sustainable brands selected by us
Hello and hey in our blog about two really meaningful brands. These two shine not only in terms of style and fashion, but especially in sustainability. Since we have always, and now more and more brands are focusing on sustainability, today we are introducing you to the two brands Veja and Ecoalf before.
LET'S GO !
Already in 2006, Veja developed its first collection made of vegetable tanned leather, the new brand on the market focused initially on children's shoes , as we are all aware that it is a must to put sustainable materials on the feet of our "future". Only then did the exclusive Veja style become available for adults . In 2012, Veja won two awards: the Guardian Sustainable Business Award and the Observer Ethical Award , presented in collaboration with Vogue.
In October 2018, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, a couple from the stylish Veja collection at a sailing event on an official tour with Prince Harry of Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
The Veja sneakers are made of Organic cotton , Wild rubber from the Amazon, vegetable tanned leather and recycled plastic bottles .
- Organic cotton Veja works with a cooperative of organic cotton farmers in northeastern Brazil. Cotton and food crops are grown without chemicals or pesticides.
- Wild rubber from the Amazon The soles of Veja trainers are made from wild rubber from the Amazon rainforest. The Amazon is the only place on Earth where rubber trees grow in the wild. This allows local workers to make a decent living in rubber extraction, reducing the financial attractiveness of clearing the land. This is an economically sustainable way to combat deforestation.
- Vegetable tanned leather Veja has been using this since 2006, this is a chrome-free leather that is tanned only with organic compounds. Veja has replaced heavy metals with acacia extracts, a natural tannin.
- Recycled plastic bottles Veja uses waterproof bottle mesh on the soles of its sneakers. One pair of shoes requires three recycled plastic bottles, which are collected on the streets of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and later shredded and turned into fibers.
Ecological and fair trade conditions , with Cooperatives of small producers and social associations Working in Brazil and France is also an approach to sustainability in the production of Veja sneakers .
The production of the brand Veja takes place in a Factory in southern Brazil instead, this is respected by the International Labour Organization and his established working standards . 80% of the workers in the factory are unionized.
The logistics the Veja shoes and accessories per ship from Brazil to France and Paris. This is operated by a French Social association that enables unemployed people to return to work through training .
Frustrated by the overuse of the world’s natural resources and the amount of waste produced by industrialized countries, Ecoalf in 2009, with the aim of producing the first fashion range that uses recycled materials to achieve good quality, modern design and technical advancement. Ecoalf wants to show that it is not necessary to continue wasting the planet's natural resources!
Mission: To produce the first generation of recycled products with the same quality and design standards as the best non-recycled products.
Recycled plastic bottles from the seabed are collected by more than 2,500 fishermen at 32 ports, removing more than 300 tons of garbage from the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The recycled nylon is made from nylon scraps (material scraps, fishing nets from the sea and carpets). Only half as many steps are required for production as in a conventional chemical process. Energy and water consumption are also greatly reduced!
For the Production of a recycled cotton T-shirt saves Ecoalf 2500 L water per T-shirt.
Due to their long lifespan, wool products are ideal for mechanical recycling processes without causing significant damage to the fiber. For the flip-flops, two years were invested in developing a method of recycling old tires in order to produce a clean powder that forms the basis for the shoes.
The use of waste as a raw material makes it possible to minimize the consumption of natural resources. Ecoalf transforms leftovers into a great, quality raw material - and in this way waste is also reduced. The majority of processes at Ecoalf are mechanical recycling processes, which is the most sustainable way of recycling.
In summary, you are not only doing something good for yourself, your feet and your body, but with these sustainable materials and the associated production methods, we are helping our planet to minimize the problems that occur on it.
And the best part: Both of these brands are absolutely stylish eye-catchers!
