When I was asked if I could write something about the background thoughts behind my deck design, my first thought was: "Oh no...". To be honest, I usually don't think too much about painting - that's exactly why I paint - to free myself from thinking. I often sit down, start intuitively, and the rest falls into place.
Only when I reflected on it later did I realise how much personal stuff had actually gone into this picture. It tells a small , personal episode from my life. It is particularly important to me that everyone has their own thoughts and is creative when they look at my pictures. I find it exciting when everyone interprets the works in their own way. That's why I don't like to talk about what was going through my head or what feelings I had when I was painting.
In my art, I am always drawn to certain motifs and materials. Gold often plays a central role in my pictures - it gives them a noble aura and depth. I am also fascinated by human forms: faces, outlines, mouths. These elements appear again and again, sometimes clearly and distinctly, sometimes only as a suggestion. I think these motifs enable me to express my emotions in a subtle but powerful way. These motifs can also be found in my skate deck design. When I started the picture, I was - quite classically - heartbroken... and what better way to distract yourself than with a brush in your hand? So I just started painting. Now you can take a look at the individual motifs in the design and think about what they might represent.
And if you are curious and want to know more about the exact details of the design, feel free to follow me on Instagram ( @villavie.art ) and write to me! 😊

Sometimes the best things in life are those that come from the joy of creating . Because I've always been creative and skating has recently become a passion of mine, I spontaneously decided to take part in the Moreboards skateboard design contest in April. When designing the deck, my loved ones , my cat Adonis and music were my biggest inspiration .
While I was working on my designs, I experimented with different styles , colors and motifs . Some of my designs were colorful and playful, while others were more minimalistic. But when I finally finished the design that won me second place , I knew immediately: This is my masterpiece ! The moment I did my "happy dance" was an unforgettable moment.
It has always been important to me to stand out from the crowd and this design embodies exactly what I wanted: creativity and individuality . The design means so much to me how everything on our planet is connected... and it should remind us of exactly that. Maybe it is also a reflection of the fact that there is always something new to discover in our world, just like on this skate deck.
In a world full of similar designs, I strived to find my own voice and express it through my design, which I think I did very well.
A huge thank you to Moreboards, because through this experience I not only had the opportunity to further develop my designs, but also the courage and the first step towards my own brand “ MaukaSkateboards ”.

INSPIRATION? So what inspired me... a few years ago a friend came to me and said she had a saying (I don't remember if it was exactly "one place to skate - no place for hate" , but at least it had that basic idea), because at the time I was designing t-shirt designs and generally liked to draw illustrations. At some point I picked up the saying and thought that it could be put into a design that shows our beautiful planet. That's why I made the globe with the lettering around it. The whole thing was created as a hand drawing and then digitized.
IDEA? When I heard about the Moreboards design contest, I immediately thought of this drawing, which had previously only existed in my sketchbook. As a freelance photographer, graphic artist and web designer ( www.sambu-media.at ), I had some time to spare, so I dedicated myself to this project. I thought that the illustration on its own could be a bit boring, but it should still represent the main motif. So I thought about how I could package it and came to the conclusion that it would be cool if you could look at the earth from space or from the surface of the moon. So it was clear what needed to be designed around the main motif - the surface of the moon in the foreground, then space above the motif in the background.
MEANING? The meaning of the motif is unfortunately more relevant than ever. Every skater knows the social power of skateboarding . It doesn't matter what you look like, where you come from, what you do, who you are, etc. It is meant to convey that solidarity is more effective than exclusion, that together you can achieve more than alone, that love (for skating ;) ) is stronger than hate and that our world is too beautiful to fight each other.
Go skating together rather than judging others!!!

For me, the hand represents power and the Moreboards logo found the perfect place here.
